The importance of oral health and function in your life

Currently, the oral health approach is integral to general health, the concept of oral health involves psychosocial dimensions, such as safety, well-being, ability to socialize, supports people to participate in society and achieve their potential . Research links oral health to longevity by focusing on oral function and exalting the mechanisms by which oral function contributes to extending a long and healthy life.

The World Dental Federation defines oral health as "the ability to speak, smile, smell, taste, touch, chew, swallow, and convey a variety of emotions through facial expressions with confidence and without pain, discomfort, or dental disease." craniofacial complex (head, face, and oral cavity). Oral health means the health of the mouth. No matter what your age, oral health is vital to overall health and well-being.”

Oral health and function directly or indirectly affect physical, mental and social health, we cannot separate one from the other. 17 muscles are involved in a simple movement of the tongue, 12 muscles are involved when smiling, 36 muscles are involved in facial expressions (liking, disliking, exclamation, doubt, joy, fear, astonishment, whistling, etc.). These muscles have perception, sensitivity and nutrition given by nerves, veins and arteries; they insert into the bones of the face, skull, and mouth (craniofacial complex); the jaw bones are articulated to the skull by two “hinges” (the TMJ or temporomandibular joint) and are supported by ligaments and muscles (otherwise the jaw would hang); the bones of the oral cavity are covered by soft tissue and house the teeth; teeth have enamel, dentin and nerve (pulp), this nerve connects to the bone, runs through the face, and carries information to the skull and central nervous system. If there is health in the mouth and healthy teeth, our basic functions are given wonderfully. If even a small part of this system fails, it hurts, it is sick, there is no gear, there is no function, and there is no oral health; there is no sleep, there is no rest, there is no work, there is no creativity; it is difficult to talk and does not socialize; if there is physical and emotional pain, there is no well-being, there is no joy, there are worries, don't smile, you can't SMILE NATURALLY!.
